Prasad Rama Hedge is a progressive and innovative farmer belongs to Yellapur taluk which bordering and more near to Sirsi taluk of Uttara Kannada district. He has not only conserved local rare varieties but also has worked towards bringing about awareness among fellow farmers about conservation. He distribute seedlings of rare mango, jack, Cinnamon, Pepper varieties whoever visits his farm.

Born in the agricultural family, Prasad obtained a B.A. Degree and later he becomes a full fledged farmer. The diversity of crops of plants from Areca nut to Cinnamon and Pepper has been grown in his farmland. He is an expert in grafts man of plants and trained over200 farmers a year. Along with this he rear wild honey bees with his own technique and sell the honey. He is very much humble farmer as he always busy in experimenting cultivating newer varieties of plants in his garden and also doing his own research in bringing value added products.

Several awards have come in search of Prasad Hegde. He has been honoured Krishi Sadhaka award from Swarnavalli Matha in 2011. Best agriculturist award from UAS, Dharwad in the year 2013, Halasu Siri award from Kadamba Marketing Society, Sirsi in 2009. He has attended the meeting of Krishi Bele Ayoga in 2013 and is honoured in Krishi Mela – 2011 by UAS, G.K.V.K Bangalore. He has developed a Cinnamon orchard. Felicitated by IIHR, Bangalore as a genetic resources of the Western Ghats.

Products developed: Kankodlu Jam appe which is grown in Prasad Hegdes Farm is used in making homemade mango jam and selling them. He makes Mango Roti and jack fruit papad which are very famous. Krishnapala, Kankodlu redfruit and Kumkuma Kesari are the mango varieties which are in great demand which are available in his farm. Prasad has good association with FORGA. With his assistance organization will introduce newer products to market.
